He prides himself on being one step ahead of everyone else and likes to be #1. Because he is secretly insecure, he makes himself feel better by putting other people down all the time. His macho exterior and self-assured attitude is just a mask for feeling weak and not good enough for his father. His dad was a drunk and at times verbally and emotionally abusive, but Simon aspires to be tough like him and believed his father was right when he said Simon was weak or wasn’t good enough at whatever he was doing. Simon likes to be in the middle of everything and loves attention, but gets moody and withdraws if things don’t go his way. He wants to be liked and will try almost anything to get people to like him and also does whatever is in his power to make people he hates feel miserable. Thomas Myles was sixteen when he was attacked by a werewolf on a camping trip with his father and brothers. He got separated from the group while wandering around the area when a big beast tackled him down to the ground and tried to eat Thomas. His father and brothers heard his screams and came in just time to fire at the beast and injure it, scaring the thing away and saving his life. Thomas thought it was a large wild cat, and his family agreed that’s what they saw too. He never dreamed that the thing was what the legends called a “werewolf”. Because the wounds he received looked fatal, they put him in the truck and rushed him to the nearest hospital. Thomas’ shoulder was bleeding badly and his arm was broken. Many ribs had been crushed, but they told him he was lucky that none of them punctured one of his lungs. Deep slashes covered both of his arms and his chest and face, leaving Thomas scarred for life from the accident. The next morning while he was resting in the hospital and recovering, a young woman with gunshot wounds was brought in by her parents. They claimed it was a hunting accident, even though the hunting clothes the girl wore had no bullet holes in them. The doctors didn’t notice because they were too busy cutting off her clothes to treat the gunshot wounds. The two of them healed in the hospital at the same time across from each other when the young woman came to. She heard his family talking about the accident he had with a large wild cat and when she looked over at him and saw the bandages from all of the scars she noticed him and recognized his scent from that night. He had been the person she attacked by accident. Her name was April. April felt awful for what she had done. She nearly killed him and disfigured him for life. April befriended the man and learned his name was Thomas. Thomas became a werewolf because of April’s attack, and she told him it was her and revealed what she was and that she was very sorry. She said he might change into a werewolf like her on the next full moon. Taking her advice and believing her, Thomas drove out to a remote forest the next full moon where he shifted into a werewolf. The two of them found each other in the night and bonded as werewolves. They dated for a while and fell in love. Thomas proposed to April and they got married. The couple moved to Minnesota because of a job opportunity for Thomas. Their first child was Shannon, a baby girl. Their second child was Simon, a boy. When the job feel through shortly after their son's birth, they moved back to their home of Montana. Shannon and Simon were three years apart in age and both of them were born werewolves. The two kids picked on each other a lot because Simon was raised more by their father and Shannon by their mother. So Shannon was too “girly” for Simon to play with and Simon was too “dirty” for Shannon to play with. On the night of Shannon’s first shift, the girl broke out of her pen near the house and a bear killed her in the forest. Her parents called the police the next morning and reported her missing. The police found her mangled body in the forest. April succumbed to a deep depression and committed suicide over the death of her daughter because she blamed herself for being a werewolf and passing the genes to her baby girl. The mother didn’t want to deal with Simon’s first shift and the possibility of losing him too. Thomas became a drunk after his daughter’s death and wife’s suicide. He treated Simon like crap and put him down all the time. Simon believed his father and thought he wasn’t good enough for anything so he tried hard to excel in everything at school. He failed at acing his class work, but Simon excelled in sports and joined many teams. Simon joined all of the school’s sports teams even swimming and track. No matter how many games he won for his school, winning with his father never happened for Simon. He was never good enough and his father let him know they everyday of his life. Because of Thomas’s verbal and emotional abuse, Simon grew up to be just like his dad and treated other people inferiorly. He became arrogant and conceited and saw everything from his point of view. Choosing not to go to college, Simon instead did construction work like his father. At 24, Simon left his home state and met a young werewolf named Adrienne Conte. He liked her a lot and they semi-dated, but she started to spend more time with others especially a guy and Simon got jealous. He hated the way she treated him and so he left without a word and returned home. Thomas died from liver, kidney, and heart failure while Simon was away. He attended his father’s funeral and sold the family house because it contained too many bad memories. In just a few months a virus outbreak was on the news and all over the country. Simon packed up and got in his truck and drove across the country to find somewhere safe. He ran into a group of werewolves like him. They said praeternaturals made a safe place in the Republic of Macedonia and they were taking a ship there. Simon boarded the ship with them to the Balkans for Elysium. | |||||||||
